photoThe Federal Government on Wednesday said Nigerians will enjoy 18 hours uninterrupted power supply from 2014 when most of the current investments in the sector would have been completed.

Yerima Ngama, minister of state for finance, stated this while briefing State House correspondents shortly after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by Vice President Namadi Sambo.

Ngama, who spoke against the background of recent allegations from the House of Representatives that government was starving the power sector of fund, stressed that the "Ministry of Power has enjoyed tremendous release of funds" from the finance ministry and that Nigerians should be patient with government as it gradually rolls out the power projects that will guarantee up to 18 hours of electricity to consumers by 2014 as promised.

He declared also that the power sector had enjoyed the best of attention from the current administration, adding that the Ministry of Power actualises its mandate of providing adequate electricity supply for Nigerians.

He also cited the oversubscribed $1 billion bond floated by the Federal Government to fund electricity infrastructure in the country, as well as release of appropriate funds for power sector reforms.
